Chinmoku no Kantai

A Maritime Self-Defense Force submarine collided with a U.S nuclear submarine in a maritime accident and sank near the waters of Japan. It is reported that all 76 people on board, including the captain Kaieda Shiro, were killed, but the truth is the accident was a cover-up in order for them to crew the Seabat, a high-performance nuclear submarine which had been built in secret by both the Japanese and U.S governments. The Seabat, which became a part of the U.S. fleet, had Captain Kaeda Kaihata appointed as its commanding officer, known for his exceptional ship-handling skills in the Maritime Self-Defense Force. However, Kaeda loads a nuclear missile into the Seabat, and suddenly rebelled, fleeing, after which he declared the independent combat nation “Yamato” to the world, with Kaeida as head of state. The United States recognizes Yamato as a nuclear terrorist and thus assembles its Pacific Fleet in order to sink it. Based on Kawaguchi Kaigi’s political military manga, this live-action series is a great accompaniment to the live-action movie.
 
The first half of the series (episodes 1-4) will include unreleased scenes that were not present in the theatrical version, and focuses on more characters from the film’s story. The second half of the series is a continuation following on from the events of the live-action movie, which depicts the naval battle off the coast of Okinawa, and the climax of the great Naval Battle off the coast of Tokyo Bay.

The Yamato dives through the cold, deep northern seas with Mozart playing. The nuclear submarine overwhelmed the US’ 7th Fleet in the Battle of Tokyo Bay and sets course for New York.

As it approaches the Bering Strait, a submarine approaches from behind. It’s the latest American nuclear sub sent by the President, with capabilities far exceeding Yamato.

At the same time, a general election is held in Japan. The Prime Minister, who pledged support for Yamato will share its fate.
