It’s no exaggeration that Aramida Yukio comes to school for the lunches. While teaching third-grade students at Kibinago Junior High, he spends his days enjoying his favorite lunches. It has been two years since Aramida transferred to teach at a new junior high school. He is still a strict teacher who is tough towards his students. All he thinks about is the school lunch and obsessively checks the menu every morning. This time, a transfer student joins the class he is in charge of. Aramida is horrified to discover it is Kumino Go, a student he had previously been involved with in a school lunch showdown.

In Japanese public schools, it is customary for teachers and students to eat lunch together in the classroom. School meals are a distinctive aspect of Japanese culture and education, featuring popular dishes like “Napolitan” spaghetti flavored with ketchup and “koppe” bread. Amarida (played by Ichihara Hayato) is a middle school teacher who cherishes these meals. He is engaged in a secret competition with his student Kamino (played by Sato Taishi), who is always experimenting to improve the taste of their lunches. When a new health-focused reform threatens the flavor of school meals, Amarida takes on the challenge to preserve their deliciousness.

“School Meals Time Graduation” is the second film spin-off of a popular TV series. The story is set in 1980s Japan, during a time of food menu reforms and stricter disciplinary measures.

In this new instalment, Amarida Yukio and his students set off on a three-day, two-night school trip to Aomori and Iwate. Even away from school, Amarida’s passion for food remains as strong as ever. He delights in tasting regional Tōhoku specialties like senbei-jiru (rice cracker soup) and wanko soba, indulging in every bite with childlike joy.

During the trip, Amarida has an unexpected reunion with Misono-sensei, a fellow teacher he once worked with at Jōsetsu Junior High. At a school lunch exchange event, the appearance of Kabasawa (played by Katagiri Jin), Misono’s senior colleague and a strict disciplinarian, sends Amarida’s food-loving spirit into overdrive.
