Set in Qin Dynasty during the warring states period in ancient China. Shin was a war orphan. He has a dream of becoming a great general Shin has a fateful encounter with young King Eisei. King Eisei aims to unify all of China.

Japanese actor Kento Yamazaki will be reprising his role as Shin in the sequel of the historical war film Kingdom, alongside co-actors Ryo Yoshizawa as Eisei, and Kanna Hashimoto as Ten.

Shinsuke Sato will also be returning to direct the film. Sato is known for various live-action movies like Gantz, Death Note: Light Up The New World and Bleach.

Adapted from a manga of the same name, Kingdom follows the story of a war orphan Shin (Kento Yamazaki), who aspires to escape his status as a slave and become a great general. The story is also based on the life of Li Xin, a general of Qin during the Warring States period of ancient China.

Owing to the pandemic, the production of Kingdom 2, which features landscapes in both Japan and China, had to proceed in stages. Filming began in June 2020 and finally wrapped up in October 2021, with a scheduled release this summer in Japan.

During the Spring and Autumn period, a time during which the Seven Kingdoms waged relentless wars, the orphaned Shin (Yamazaki Kento) meets the Qin Dynasty’s young emperor, Eisei (Yoshizawa Ryo), who bears a striking resemblance to a late friend he once made a promise with — to become the country’s commander-in-chief. The road to achieving that dream is long and difficult, but with the help of Karyoten (Hashimoto Kanna) and Yotanwa (Nagasawa Masami), fate is steadily guiding him toward China’s unification. At his first battle in the Dakan Plains, he encounters a new companion — Kyokai (Seino Nana) — and is promoted to the rank of General, at last taking strides toward his goals. But, sudden news brings word that Zhao has invaded with a large army. Although Qin is set to engage Zhao with a medley crew of their own soldiers, Ouki (Osawa Takao) — whose name was once known throughout China — is appointed supreme commander by Eisei…

While the Qin army, led by Shin, continues to fight for unification of the nation, a neighboring country from the north invades. Zhao’s general, Hou Ken appears before Shin and his comrades. Hou Ken, who calls himself the “God of War,” launches a surprise attack that dealt a devastating blow to the unit. Carrying the mortally wounded Shin, the Fei Xin Unit, attempts a desperate escape. Meanwhile, Ouki, who had been observing the battlefield, sensed the presence of another formidable figure lurking within the Zhao ranks. Who is the military tactician Ri Boku who stands quietly behind Hou Ken? Why were Ouki and Hou Ken drawn to the land of Mayang? Now, an unforgettable battle begins in the land of Mayang, where fates are intertwined.

This is the fifth movie in the series of live action adaptations, with Yamazaki Kento and Yoshizawa Ryo sent to return to the cast.
