TBS, U-NEXT and THE SEVEN are teaming up for the first time ever to bring to life a large-scale “Japanese Sword Action Entertainment”, centered on the themes of jidaigeki (period drama) and samurai.
The production team behind the drama boast impressive credits, with acclaimed director Watanabe Kazutaka (Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan) on board, alongside chief producer Morii Akira (Alice in Borderland).

Set in Kyoto during the final days of the Edo period, this bold reimagining brings to life the raw and passionate struggles of the Shinsengumi warriors. Friendship, betrayal, and unshakable convictions collide in a story inspired by historical events.

Hot-tempered and reckless, Hijikata Toshizo – known as the “Baragaki” – sought only to become the strongest. His fateful encounter with Kondo Isami, and later with extraordinary warriors such as Okita Soji and Saito Hajime, led to the creation of the legendary Shinsengumi.

Set in an era of great upheaval, the story explores how these men questioned their own purpose, lived with burning conviction, and embraced death with dazzling intensity.
