Interrogation officer Makabe Yukiko, played by Amami, is a hardened female detective who worked her way up through the ranks. Assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division’s specialized team “Emergency Case Response Interrogation Unit (commonly known as Kintori)” that interrogates troublesome suspects in specially equipped interrogation rooms with visualization facilities, Yukiko is surrounded by veteran male interrogation officers with strong personalities and engages in “verbal and psychological warfare” with cunning criminals, pursuing the truth hidden behind cases. Furthermore, as she investigates past unsolved cases, she uncovers “shocking facts”.

Using their sharp intellect and skilled interrogation techniques, Yukiko and her team strip suspects bare as they desperately resist. How long can you endure this breathtaking battle of wills…!?

Misawa Sanae, a newscaster for a news programme, comes to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Emergency Response Investigation Team in order to do a story on the special interrogation room where an enactment of an interrogation is underway. She feels a connection with Makabe Yukiko, the department’s only female who speaks passionately about the necessity of visualisation and being ready to fight fairly. “It seems we’ll be good friends,” she says in a loud voice and they shake hands firmly. This is what happened the day after. The Kintori receives a request to interrogate a suspect. This suspect is former hairdresser Yajima Satomi, who was just released yesterday morning from a women’s prison. She had served a six-year prison sentence for killing the boyfriend whom she started dating through a good friend’s introduction. In a mere three hours and fifteen minutes after her release on parole, she comes to turn herself, and says she “killed a person”. The murder weapon with Satomi’s fingerprints and skin on it as well as the dead body of a man are found at the location in accordance with her statement. However, the estimated time of death is one week ago. No matter how one thinks about it, it would have been impossible for Satomi to execute the crime while in prison. Why did she confesses to a crime that she did not commit? What truth is hidden beneath this lie!?

Makabe Yukiko is a detective in the First Investigative Division’s Emergency Investigation Response Team. They are a team of interrogation experts that goes by the name of Kintori. Surrounded by idiosyncratic veteran interrogators (Tanaka Tetsushi, Denden, Osugi Ren, Kohinata Fumiyo), she pursues the truth hidden behind cases as she plays mind and word games with tough criminals.

A few months before a law is enacted that requires the recording of all police interrogations, police officers gather at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and they receive instruction on how to treat suspects better. They observe, Yukiko Makabe (Yuki Amami) from the special interrogation team Kintori interrogate a suspect who does not show any signs of remorse. Yukiko Makabe uses sharp words and shows a lack of respect towards the suspect. Due to her behavior, Councilor Reiko Kikuchi orders Yukiko Makabe to train newcomers. Around this time, Yuta Nomoto, who received a 12 year sentence, escapes while being transferred to prison. He breaks into a house and takes a housewife as a hostage.

The familiar team members reunite for the fourth season with an even stronger sense of unwavering justice, working to expose the hidden “true faces” of complex suspects who aren’t easily cracked. However, the series “Emergency Interrogation Room” (Kintori), known for constantly surprising viewers, has an unprecedented new development in store. At the beginning of Season 4, it’s revealed that the Kintori unit will be disbanded at the end of September.

The Kintori team, which implemented audio and video recording of interrogations (visualization) even before it became legally mandated, has contributed to solving cases through their “deep human insight” and gritty interrogation methods focused on uncovering suspects’ true motives. However, in an era where complete visualization of interrogations has become standard practice, and clear evidence such as interrogation videos and surveillance camera footage has become more accessible for making arrests, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police have determined that Kintori’s role has ended.

Despite this harsh judgment, the Kintori team believes there are truths that cannot be revealed through video footage alone. Facing the brutal deadline of just 100 days until their department’s dissolution, they continue to earnestly confront each case before them, striving to uncover suspects’ motivations. However, from the very first case, unimaginable battles await them. What will become of our beloved Kintori team’s fate, and who are these formidable suspects who boldly stand in their way?

After the disbandment of the Kintori team, Yukiko transferred to the Metropolitan Police Department’s “Special Crimes Investigation Unit.” Kajiyama Katsutoshi (Tanaka Tetsuji) became an administrator in the First Investigation Division, Hishimoto Susumu (Denden) became the head of the Licensing Section at the Driving License Examination Center, and Koishikawa Haruo (Kohinata Fumiyo) became an instructor at the Police Academy. Each member of Kintori continued to uphold justice in their respective paths. Meanwhile, in the New Year Special, the “worst case in history” occurs…!? As the year-end approaches, the body of a man suspected to be involved in the 800 million yen robbery case that Kaji had been diligently investigating is found on the premises of a private home. This incident causes a stir in the Metropolitan Police Department. Aiming for a quick resolution, they decide on a special measure: the “temporary operation of Kintori and the urgent summoning of necessary personnel.”

Responding to Kaji’s summons, Yukiko temporarily returns to Kintori. However, this case turns out to be more difficult than expected! The reason being, the house where the body was found is home to a family of super-legal experts. The family head is a professor at a famous university’s law faculty, the wife is a top judge at the Tokyo High Court, the eldest son is a partner lawyer at a major law firm, and there’s even a housekeeper who seems to harbor some secrets…!?

Not only is the truth behind the 800 million yen robbery case unclear, but the reason why the body was found in this house and the identity of the body are also shrouded in darkness. Can Yukiko and her team uncover everything while dealing with this formidable family well-versed in the law? The drama will deliver a gripping story with surprising developments that will leave the audience on the edge of their seats!
