Synopsis

In 1983, Godai Yusaku (played by Nakabayashi Daiki), a student preparing for college entrance exams, lived in a run-down apartment complex called Ikkoku-kan. Despite constant interruptions from his neighbors – Ichinose Harue (played by Kishimoto Kayoko), Roppongi Akemi (played by Takahashi Yumiko), and Yotsuya (played by Kishibe Ittoku) – he tried his best to study.

Fed up with his neighbors’ intrusive behavior, Godai was about to move out when a new apartment manager arrived. Her name was Otonashi Kyoko (played by Ito Misaki). Instantly falling in love with the beautiful Kyoko, Godai decided to stay at Ikkoku-kan.

However, a shocking truth soon emerged! The former manager, Otonashi Roujin (played by Hosokawa Toshiyuki), was revealed to be Kyoko’s father-in-law. It turned out that Kyoko was a young widow! Moreover, her dog’s name “Soichiro-san” was her late husband’s name.

Learning that Kyoko still held feelings for Soichiro and had sworn off love, a devastated Godai got drunk. In his intoxicated state, he shouted a confession to Kyoko: “I love you, Kyoko-san!”

The next morning, Godai had no memory of the incident, but his neighbors mischievously told him he had “performed a naked dance in front of the manager.” When Godai tried to dismiss his confession as a drunken joke, Kyoko slapped him, saying, “How dare you! Don’t say you love someone as a joke!”

While Godai remained confused about the situation, Kyoko herself couldn’t understand why she was so angry…!? Where will this mismatched romance lead…!? And will Godai ever pass his entrance exams…!?

This special drama adaptation of Takahashi Rumiko‘s romantic comedy manga stars Ito Misaki. Set in the dilapidated Ikkoku-kan apartments, it follows the love story between Kyoko, the beautiful widowed manager, and Godai, the hapless student.
