Oda Yuji plays a character named Aoshima Shunsaku, an ex-computer salesman, who decides one day that he wants to be a detective. He soon becomes a detective at the Wangan Police Station where he encounters various cases and deals with the police bureaucracy.

A mysterious drowning victim is discovered in a river marking the jurisdictional boundary of Wangan Police Station—his abdomen grotesquely stuffed with a teddy bear. Around the same time, a theft occurs within the police station, with receipts and a coin purse stolen from a Criminal Affairs Division desk. Soon after, a high-ranking Metropolitan Police Department official living within the precinct – specifically the Deputy Superintendent General – is kidnapped for ransom, prompting the establishment of a special investigation headquarters at Wangan Station.
 
However, the task force conducts its operation in strict secrecy, refusing to cooperate with the local detectives. Frustrated by their exclusion yet determined to uncover the truth, Aoshima Shunsaku and his team push forward with their own investigation into the bizarre drowning case.
 
As tensions rise, the task force ultimately fails in its ransom exchange attempt, forcing them to abandon secrecy and launch a full public investigation…

Set in 2003, Odaiba – once filled with vacant lots – has transformed into a bustling tourist destination lined with trendy attractions and towering buildings. Officers at the Wangan Police Station now spend their days handling tourist inquiries, lost children, and traffic control.
 
One day, however, a gruesome murder occurs within their jurisdiction. Muroi Shinji, Superintendent from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, arrives on the scene along with other officials. A special investigation task force is quickly established, led by the first female commanding officer, Superintendent Okita Megumi.
 
Despite the relentless efforts of Detective Aoshima Shunsaku and his team, a second murder occurs—seemingly mocking their investigation.

Seven years have passed since the worst serial murder case in the jurisdiction of the Wangan Police Station.
Now responsible for protecting critical infrastructure – including an airport, expressways, and power substations – the precinct is set to relocate to the newly built Shin-Wangan Police Station, equipped with advanced security systems to strengthen counterterrorism efforts.
 
Aoshima Shunsaku, recently promoted to Section Chief of the Violent Crimes Division, is enthusiastically placed in charge of overseeing the relocation. However, just three days before the grand opening ceremony of the new station, a string of incidents erupts in rapid succession, including a safe-cracking burglary and a bus hijacking. The situation escalates further when three handguns are stolen from the Wangan Police Precinct, ultimately leading to a murder case.
 
In response, a Special Investigation Headquarters is established within the precinct. Aoshima joins the investigation alongside Torikai Seiichi, the administrative liaison officer tasked with coordinating between the Metropolitan Police Department and the local precinct. As the case unfolds, the stakes continue to rise…

Storyline for “Bayside Shakedown The TV Special” takes place one month before the movie “Bayside Shakedown The Final”. Detective Shunsaku Aoshima is now promoted to a section chief at Wangan Police Station. Meanwhile, Masayoshi Mashita, who is now the police chief, announces that Detective Ou will have a large scale wedding. Government official Shinji Muroi and high ranking public officers from China will attend the wedding. Everyone at the police station soon gets nervous about the wedding and the police station becomes chaotic. The police officers then learn that an international marriage swindler, who is on the international most wanted list, has arrived in Japan.

At the venue of an international environmental energy summit, a kidnapping occurs, and the victim is later found murdered. The weapon used in the killing turns out to be a handgun previously confiscated by the police.
 
Wangan Police Station is assigned to handle the investigation, but a policy is put in place that withholds all information from investigators, including Aoshima (Oda Yuji), forcing them to proceed without any shared intel.
 
As the situation escalates, a second murder takes place, and in the third incident, Mashita (Yusuke Santamaria)’s son is kidnapped.

The Odoru series began with a television drama broadcast in 1997, telling the story of an unconventional police officer, Aoshima, played by Oda Yuji, who left his corporate job to join the Criminal Investigation Division at Wangan Police Station, along with his team.
 
The latest installment, Odoru Daisousasen N.E.W., features an acronym that stands for “NEXT. EVOLUTION. WORLD.” The new story follows Aoshima, a deeply principled and justice-driven man who always acts on his beliefs and tirelessly works on the front lines for the sake of the public.
