If one more life can be saved, the Japanese medical community may regain trust. There are more lives in this country that can be saved. The “Doctor Helicopter” system was legalized in Japan in June 2007. A medical team is dispatched to the patients on a helicopter to provide medical care in the field as soon as possible. One day, four young physicians are assigned to this latest medical system. It has been one and a half years since Aizawa Kosaku, Shiraishi Megumi, Hiyama Mihoko and Fujikawa Kazuo were assigned to Shoyo University’s North Hospital. They have only three months left of their fellowship programme (specialised training programme) to be flight doctors, and each of them has come to the crossroads where they have to think of their lives after graduation.

After more than a decade of medical careers, these seasoned doctors have reached a stage where they must confront both their professional and personal lives, each walking their own chosen path.

Aizawa Kosaku has left the Emergency Medical Center at Shoyo University’s Northern Hospital to pursue excellence as a neurosurgeon, performing daily operations while striving for greater heights. Shiraishi Megumi now serves as staff leader of the flight doctors at the understaffed Shohoku Emergency Medical Center, where she continues to fight on the front lines.

Hiyama Mihoko, who once aspired to become a flight doctor alongside her colleagues, has left Shohoku Hospital to pursue her path as an obstetrician-gynecologist at a perinatal medical center. Saejima Haruka continues to excel as a flight nurse, mastering her craft as the team’s ace. Meanwhile, Fujikawa Kazuo has become an orthopedic specialist supporting the Shohoku Emergency Medical Center alongside Shiraishi.

Tachibana Keisuke, whose name cannot be omitted when discussing their growth, continues his work as an emergency physician but currently faces a difficult situation regarding his son. What is the source of Tachibana’s internal conflict?

New fellows arrive at the emergency center: Natori Soma, Haitori Shunpei, and Yokomine Akari aspire to become flight doctors, while Yukimura Futaba aims to become a flight nurse. While everyone at the emergency center laments that these fellows are useless, Shiraishi desperately tries to develop them into capable personnel amid the staff shortage.

A powerful rival, Shinkai Hiroki, appears to challenge the already trusted neurosurgeon Aizawa. They compete for selection as a clinical physician at the University of Toronto, which boasts world-class standards in neurosurgery.

Code Blue’s third season finally begins, featuring the former fellows now walking their individual paths, the new fellows, and their colleagues.
