Synopsis

Detective Kudo (Okada Junichi) speeds through the rainy night of December 29th, desperate to see his mother ahead of her dying breath. But before he has the chance, his section chief calls and drops a heavy accusation: a weekly magazine has published a slush fund allegation against their station, and Kudo’s innocence is drawn into question. While Kudo’s able to talk his way around it, the bad news doesn’t stop there. As the bad night turns worse, he learns that his mother has already passed just before a man caught in Kudo’s path is struck and killed.

To spare himself, Kudo stuffs the body into his trunk, transporting it to the funeral home with every intention of letting the corpse burn inside his mother’s coffin – but he’s not off the hook yet, receiving texts from someone who may have witnessed the incident. The sender? Inspector Yazaki (Ayano Go) from the prefectural police headquarters, a man with his own set of secrets to hide…
