Synopsis

This work unravels the mysterious life of the legendary artist Katsushika Oi, who returned home after divorcing her husband following an argument, and continued to live as Hokusai’s disciple and daughter until he passed away at 90 years old.

In the Edo period, where art was dominated by men, she flourished as one of the few female painters. With her short temper, strong personality, and unstoppable smoking habit, she possessed both remarkable artistic talent — even Hokusai acknowledged that “she surpassed him in beauty paintings” — and the boldness to thrive in a male-dominated society.
