Synopsis

Based on the autobiography by Segawa Shoji, a Japanese professional shogi player ranked 6-dan..

Segawa Shoji, nicknamed “Shottan,” was a quiet young man with no particular talents – until he discovered shogi, the one thing that finally earned him recognition from those around him. Inspired, he set his sights on becoming a professional shogi player. Through encounters with rivals and mentors, he steadily honed his skills and entered the “Shoreikai,” a gateway to becoming a professional shogi player. However, crushed by the pressure of the rule that required him to reach fourth dan by the age of 26 or face expulsion, Shoji was forced to withdraw. Devastated by the setback, he nearly gave up on his dreams, but supported by his love for shogi and the encouragement of his companions, he rose once again to pursue the path of a professional player.
