Synopsis

Zenji, a fisherman living in Hokkaido, loses his son Mitsuō to cancer without having reconciled after a bitter falling out. One day, as he approaches the forty-ninth day after his son’s death without attending the funeral held in Tokyo, his daughter-in-law Tōko arrives with her daughters Miharu and Rin. Initially bewildered and struggling to interact appropriately, Zenji begins to reflect on his deceased son through these unexpected visitors. Tōko is desperately protective of Miharu, who has autism and auditory hypersensitivity, while Miharu yearns to step outside her protected world but escapes into her dreams whenever anxiety overwhelms her. As they interact with the residents of this small town, the three gradually begin to listen to their inner voices.
