Synopsis

This work is based on a true story of two Japanese soldiers who survived for two years on a Gajumaru tree during the final stages of the Pacific War, amid the fierce ground battles of Okinawa, unaware that the war had ended. Dispatched from Miyazaki, a commanding officer and Okinawan recruit Agena Seijun were cornered by intense gunfire and climbed up a large Gajumaru tree to hide. The Gajumaru tree, with its thick branches and dense foliage, was the perfect hiding spot, but beneath the tree, the number of fallen comrades continued to increase, and the enemy’s territory expanded day by day. With no means of communication and hoping to endure until reinforcements arrived, they continued their “lonely war” in the treetops for two years, never knowing that the war had ended.
