Synopsis

The film depicts a world where the world of Hikaru Genji and Murasaki Shikibu, who wrote the story intertwined. During the Heian Period, court official Fujiwara no Michinaga orders Murasaki Shikibu to write a romance story for his daugther Fujiwara no Soshi in order to make her more attractive to the Emperor. As a result, Murasaki creates a story about Hikaru Genji a fictional Emperor’s son who looks for love in several ladies of the court just to forget his fist and forbidden love that is his father’s consort/his stepmother, Lady Fujitsubo. As the audience in the Heian court grow enchanted by the story, Fujiwara no Michinaga begins to fall for Murasaki.
