Synopsis

A Heartbreaking Tale of Love, Betrayal, and Redemption

After breaking up with Shuichi, Aya returns to her hometown in Hokkaido, where Takumi, a doctor who followed her, begins a new life together with her. Despite finding joy in their daily lives, Aya and Takumi travel to Tokyo for the wedding of Aya’s best friend, Sonoko. There, Aya and Shuichi cross paths once again, rekindling unresolved emotions. Takumi proposes to Aya with two boxes: one containing a red rose for marriage, the other a white rose to nullify the proposal. Aya chooses the red rose but discovers both boxes held red roses, exposing Takumi’s ruse. Despite this, Aya accepts his proposal, while Shuichi struggles to forget her, burdened by his partner Shoko’s declining health.

Shoko, suffering from a heart condition, sacrifices her life for their unborn child. After her funeral, Shuichi confesses his lingering feelings for Aya, shaking her resolve. Takumi suggests she reunite with Shuichi in Hokkaido, but a tragic accident leaves Takumi paralyzed and throws their lives into chaos. With the hospital’s funding cut and Shuichi ousted from his position, hope seems lost until Aya’s act of kindness years prior leads to financial salvation. Though Aya attempts to return to Takumi, misunderstandings and heartbreak create tension between them. Takumi’s mother’s final wish helps resolve their turmoil, allowing Takumi to regain his confidence as a doctor.

A Final Act of Sacrifice

As tensions rise, Takumi performs a life-saving surgery, rekindling his passion for medicine. Meanwhile, Shuichi and Aya’s paths cross once more, leading to a fateful encounter. Takumi, now coming to terms with his unrequited love, encourages Shuichi to propose to Aya. However, during Aya and Shuichi’s wedding, the vengeful Yagami—Shuichi’s adversary—reappears, stabbing Shuichi. With his dying breath, Shuichi confesses his love to Aya, leaving her unaware of what transpired due to her blindness and deafness caused by an earlier tragedy.

A corneal transplant restores Aya’s sight, only for her to discover that the donor was Shuichi. Overwhelmed with grief, Aya contemplates suicide but finds hope upon learning she carries Shuichi’s child. Returning to Hokkaido, she reflects on their love while gazing at the starry sky, embracing the life growing within her. Takumi, now resigned to supporting Aya from afar, honors Shuichi’s memory, completing this poignant story of love, loss, and new beginnings.
