Synopsis

Set in the late Edo period during the Bunka-Bunsei era. As the flourishing merchant culture bloomed, the reign of the 11th Shogun Ienari was plagued by cronyism, and public morals throughout Edo from top to bottom tended to deteriorate. The lives of ordinary people living in the town grew increasingly difficult, while discontent among samurai and townspeople continued to accumulate. On such dangerous nights in Edo, the sound of a whistle suddenly echoes through the darkness. “There he goes!” “It’s the rat’s work again!” A black-clad man carrying a chest of gold coins nimbly escapes across rooftops, then scatters money throughout the humble tenements where people sleep. This is the 21st-century version of the well-known “Nezumi Kozo” – an exhilarating action entertainment.
