Synopsis

Hiratsuka Heihachi, played by Katori, is the Metropolitan Police Department’s most eccentric detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. He’s petty, underhanded, obsessively detail-oriented, and rude, yet maintains a constant smile and speaks with extremely polite, gentlemanly language to everyone. His signature catchphrases are “Hoo…” and “As is, as is.”

Saionji Kosuke, portrayed by Yamashita, is a super-wealthy heir with a strong sense of justice – a pure-hearted and straightforward rookie detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. He has the peculiar trait of loving round objects. Saionji gets provisionally assigned to his dream job in the Criminal Investigation Division, only to discover his assignment is to monitor the eccentric Heihachi.

The Criminal Investigation Division’s Hiratsuka Unit consists of only Heihachi himself. Within the division, he’s a despised figure whom no one wants to work under, yet mysteriously, he continues solving case after case. To uncover the secret behind his success, the department decides to place Saionji under Heihachi’s supervision.

What emerges is that Heihachi represents “the most detestable person” even to criminals. While ordinary people easily fall for perpetrators’ schemes and deceptions, Heihachi remains undeceived. He brazenly intrudes into areas others find uncomfortable, exposing their hidden faces and the true nature of human relationships. This embodies the principle that “only a detestable person can corner other detestable people.”
