Synopsis

It is 1971, the year after the Osaka Exposition, and a girl named Suzume is born to the owners of a small-town eatery in Gifu. Suzume becomes deaf in one ear due to an illness in her elementary school years. Despite this, she receives a lot of love and encouragement from her family and childhood friend Ritsu, who was born on the same day at the same hospital. After graduating from her high school, Suzume decides she wishes to write manga for girls and leaves to go to Tokyo. Throughout the years, she has many struggles and setbacks in her personal life and student life. She gets married and has a daughter. After hardship in her marriage and upon failing in her dream to become a cartoonist, she returns to her hometown as a single mother. It is a sudden turning point in her life…
