Matsuzaka Tori will star in the 2027 upcoming Taiga Gyakuzoku no Bakushin. This work tells the untold story of Oguri Tadamasa (Kozukenosuke), a historical figure famously known as Katsu Kaishū’s rival. This narrative unfolds from the perspective of the “defeated” – an Edo shogunate vassal – revealing the hidden aspects of the tumultuous late Edo period. Oguri, who became Japan’s first envoy to the United States and experienced the civilization of a new era, designed a blueprint for a new nation. However, the Meiji government ultimately branded him a “traitor,” and his legacy was buried in the darkness of history.
