Sleepless Al Arc (Original: Lesson 237 / Anime: Episode 153)

Kagura finds herself unable to sleep, possibly due to lazing around during the day, and becomes desperately frustrated. She tries switching futons with Gintoki and contemplates various theories about eye positioning and breathing techniques while sleeping. However, not only does she remain wide awake, but Gintoki, who gets dragged into her sleepless struggle, also becomes completely alert. Following Gintoki’s advice that exercise and a full stomach lead to good sleep, Kagura attempts a midnight jog covering 50 laps around the neighborhood, followed by consuming a massive amount of rice. Unfortunately, these efforts only make her more awake, and sleep continues to elude her. Will peaceful slumber ever come to Kagura? A nightlong battle between Kagura and Gintoki unfolds.

 

Hijikata Anti-Smoking Arc (Original: Lesson 202 / Anime: Episode 119)

Following Okita’s proposal, the Shinsengumi headquarters decides to implement a complete smoking ban. Heavy smoker Hijikata desperately resists but reluctantly agrees under pressure from his squad members. Attempting to at least smoke while patrolling the streets, he lights up during his rounds, only to discover that everywhere has become a non-smoking zone. The societal trend shows increasingly harsh treatment toward smokers. Eventually, a “smoking prohibition decree” is issued across all of Edo. Driven by his desperate craving for cigarettes, Hijikata heads toward outer space.

Screams of agony at the dentist’s office! Both Gintoki and Hijikata develop cavities and reluctantly rush to the dental clinic they despise. However, an outrageous treatment awaits them there!
