Synopsis

As Japan’s ongoing doctor shortage pushes maternity care to the brink of collapse, even perinatal medical centers responsible for high-risk pregnancies are struggling to accept emergency patients. Amid this growing crisis, a top-tier luxury hospital located in the heart of Tokyo secretly establishes a special “Maternal and Child Emergency Rescue Team” under the direct orders of its hospital director.

The team’s mission is to provide free emergency care for pregnant women with nowhere else to turn, many of whom carry complicated personal circumstances. The drama follows this diverse group of medical professionals who each have their own personalities and values, as they confront life-and-death situations and fight to protect both mothers and their children.

Higa portrays Mitsui Aki, a highly skilled obstetrician-gynecologist and self-made specialist who, despite hearing loss in one ear, is more determined than anyone to hear every newborn’s first cry. She has a bright, easygoing personality and enjoys good food and alcohol, but beneath her cheerful exterior lies a deep emotional wound tied to her own birth.
