Synopsis
Kitano Sakura has a dream: to build a bridge connecting her hometown on a remote island in northern Japan to the mainland. She leaves her hometown to work for a major general contractor in Tokyo, but her stubborn personality leads her into frequent clashes with superiors and coworkers. Sakura takes everything at face value, to the extent that when the company president tells new hires to feel free to share their thoughts with him at the company’s opening ceremony, Sakura does exactly that: she states in front of the entire audience that she thought the president’s opening speech was too long and that there were several mistakes in what he said. While this incident is quickly managed, Sakura finds herself continually faced with conflict involving those around her as she struggles to read social situations and develop friendships. With each episode spanning one year in Sakura’s life from 2009 to the present, Douki no Sakura is a tale of a unique woman who, despite being a misfit in society, will never give up on pursuing her dream.
