Synopsis

At the center of the story is “News Gate,” a flagship news program on commercial television station JBN, which has a 40-year broadcasting history but is currently struggling with low ratings. The protagonist is Shindo Souichi (portrayed by Abe Hiroshi), who built his career as a social affairs reporter at a public broadcasting station before serving as a news program anchor. He was later recruited by JBN’s chairman to become the main anchor of News Gate. Shindo is an unconventional man who will use any means necessary to “convey the truth,” conducting interviews and investigations according to his own rules while disregarding existing protocols.

Joining Shindo is Sakikubo Hana (Nagano Mei), a hit-maker who has excelled in variety shows, appointed as the general director to revitalize the program, and Motohashi Yusuke (Michieda Shunsuke), a second-year assistant director who studied abroad at an American university pursuing journalism. The relationship between these three characters becomes a highlight throughout the series, depicting how the previously fragmented team members grow together after Shindo’s appointment as anchor, eventually pursuing the truth behind a certain incident.
