The 115th Asadora, Blossom, is inspired by the life of renowned writer Uno Chiyo, known for novels like Ohan, who pursued freedom while living through the Meiji to Showa eras. Set in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the story follows a curious and powerful author navigating turbulent times. Ishibashi Shizuka stars as the protagonist, Hano Tama.

Born in 1897 in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Hano Tama loses her mother at the age of two. Raised by her father and stepmother, she begins her career as a substitute teacher after graduating from girls’ school – only to be dismissed and driven from her hometown of Iwakuni.

Seeking refuge with relatives in Tokyo, Tama reconnects with a dream she had nurtured since childhood and begins forging her path as a writer through literary prize competitions. But hers is a world in upheaval; an era of rapidly shifting values.

From the Taisho era through the Showa era, Tama is swept up in one hardship after another; the Great Kanto Earthquake, war, marriage and divorce, bankruptcy and debt. Yet through it all, she remains steadfast in her commitment to life as a writer, and ultimately blossoms into a celebrated novelist. Along the way, she makes enemies, faces misunderstanding, and both wounds and is wounded by those around her. Yet Tama never stops being true to herself in her pursuit of freedom – and through her novels, she quietly carries happiness to every reader who turns her pages.
