Synopsis

In 1999, housewife Aoyama Nao could not stand the violence of her husband, Naoki, any longer. She took their 5-year-old son Ryota and ran away from home. They soon arrived at a faraway town by the sea. She starts searching for a place to live and a job to start life there, but it is not easy. No real estate company will lease a room to a woman with no job and a child. Just as Nao is at her wits end, she enters a real estate agent office where Saito Kumi, a single mother, works. Guessing the situtation, Kumi extends a helping hand to Nao. After that, Nao finds a part-time job at a sushi shop and a kindergarten for Ryota to attend, and works hard to begin life anew in this town. One day, Nao is slapped on the shoulder by a male customer while she is at the cash register. In that moment, she has a flashback of her husband’s domestic violence. She unthinkingly crouches down and is unable to move. Nao is saved by a quick-witted Kosaka Toko, the representative of the single mothers group.
