Synopsis

Three childhood friends from Edo, once known as the spirited “Boar, Deer, Butterfly of Babacho,” now face the harsh realities of life beyond thirty. Ino, daughter of a humble rice shop; Shika, wife of a samurai family; and Cho, proprietress of a sundries store – each woman harbors secret troubles and deep frustrations they cannot share with others.

 

In a moment of desperate rebellion, all three abandon their jobs and families to embark on a spontaneous “nuke-mairi” pilgrimage. This trending practice involves suddenly disappearing without notice to journey to Ise Shrine, leaving behind all responsibilities and expectations.

 

What was supposed to be their settled adult lives has become a source of disappointment and constraint. The burdens weighing on these three women mirror struggles that resonate deeply with modern audiences – unfulfilled dreams, societal pressures, and the suffocating nature of prescribed roles.

 

As they travel together on this unauthorized adventure, the trio gradually rediscovers their lost spark and vitality. Their journey becomes a liberating escape from conventional expectations, transforming them from three downtrodden women into radiant individuals who reclaim their authentic selves.
