Synopsis

In the early Showa period, in Matsuyama, a baby was abandoned with a doll under the eaves of a merchant house along the pilgrimage route. This girl, named Haruko, was raised lovingly as the younger sister of a boy named Ryosuke, who was three years her junior. Eventually, war began, and 16-year-old Ryosuke (Bando Ryuta) passed the entrance exam for the Naval Academy and crossed the Seto Inland Sea. After much deliberation, his mother, Shizuko (Tanaka Yuko), told Haruko the truth for the first time: “You are not real siblings.” Haruko (Ashida Mana), who had harbored innocent romantic feelings for her brother, rejoiced naively and headed to Hiroshima to share this news with him. The next day, the atomic bomb exploded in the sky above.
