Synopsis

Chuo Medical Examiner’s Office is an institute which carries out autopsies and dissections on all unnatural deaths such as sudden death of unknown causes, misadventures and suicides. One day, a new medical examiner Matsumoto Mao arrives at the medical examiner’s office which perennially struggles with a shortage of staff. She is a genius with an IQ of 150, but is an oddball who has been totally absorbed in the world of forensic medicine since her student days. After quickly introducing herself, she bluntly analyses her superiors’ private lives with the perceptiveness of a profiler, making her seniors embarrassed from the first day. Only one person, the veteran medical examiner Inden Kyoko, calmly behaves in a way to put Mao to the test. She is about to have a busy first day with many autopsies to be done. However, that evening, a bereaved wife who says she is not satisfied with her husband’s cause of death and wants an autopsy, brings his dead body into the medical examiner’s office. The dead body is that of a male blue-collar worker who appears to have fallen from a construction site’s scaffolding. He was found lying at the construction site and taken to a hospital where he died. Although a walk-in autopsy cannot be accepted, they end up keeping the dead man’s body due to the wife. However, Mao senses the regret of the wife and starts an autopsy at her own discretion. She realises he could have been murdered from a few traces left on his body, and the detective Yashiki Ichiro swings into action.
