Synopsis

Sixteen-year-old Nana enters service at the Kazehaya household, where she encounters the kind mistress Sachi, the master Ichinoshin, who treats her without regard for social status, and their two children. Nana is actually from a samurai family – after her father was driven to seppuku on false charges for attempting to expose corruption within the domain, she concealed her origins and took refuge with her mother’s family. Eventually, Sachi dies from tuberculosis, and evil forces close in on Ichinoshin as he, too, tries to correct the corruption within the domain.
