It’s been years since former university friends, Shiro Kido and Rio Kijima last crossed paths. But when one of their former college professors passes away, they find themselves slowly being drawn into each other’s lives. Engaged to be married, Kido seems to have his life in order, but that’s not exactly the case. As an erotic fiction publisher, Kido’s profession doesn’t sit well with his fiancee’s parents. Refusing to let their daughter marry anyone involved in the world of pornography, Kido is forced to decide between work and love. On the other hand, Kijima, a once talented writer, is struggling to make ends meet, as his idealistic dreams of becoming a professional writer haven’t worked out the way he thought they would. On the brink of ruin, Kido suggests start writing erotic novels, as a way to earn some quicky, easy money. Torn between his high-minded ideals and his current desperation, Kijima lets the feelings he has for his old friend lead him where they will. Spurred by the growing tension between them, Kijima and Kido find themselves giving into their most erotic desires, but will their new relationship bring the healing they both desperately need or leave them both in ruins? Further developing the story of Kido and Kijima that began with “The Novelist” (2018), “Mood Indigo” is a 2019 drama directed by Miki Koichiro.
