Synopsis

The “Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai” series follows Kishibe Rohan as he confronts bizarre and supernatural cases using his special ability “Heaven’s Door.” The franchise has produced four drama seasons and two films to date. Original creator Araki Hirohiko joins on the scriptwriting team.

This original instalment in the “Kishibe Rohan” universe “Izumi Kyoka wa Damaranai,” centers on Kyoka as she gets drawn into a supernatural incident sparked by a single remark from Rohan.

The story opens with Izumi Kyoka raising her voice at Kishibe Rohan during a meeting, exclaiming, “That’s such a cruel thing to say!” The tension stems from Saion Mika, a rookie manga artist whose series Kyoka recently launched. While Kyoka proudly touts it as a massive two-million-copy hit, Rohan harshly critiques it: “The dialogue is striking, but the artwork and story are ordinary and unbalanced—there’s something off about this manga artist.”

Angered, Kyoka storms out, though her reaction isn’t just due to Rohan’s words — she has already been harboring her own doubts about Mika. Having only ever communicated through Mika’s brother, Saion Soushi, Kyoka has never met Mika in person or seen how she creates her work.

Driven by growing anxiety, Kyoka visits the Saion residence and forces a face-to-face meeting with Mika. However, Mika remains completely unresponsive, and her silence only heightens Kyoka’s unease. The only one who responds is Soushi, who stays constantly by Mika’s side.
