Synopsis

This cynical comedy centers on Shibusawa Madoka, a freelance writer who moves from Tokyo to marry into a long-established folding fan shop in Kyoto. Hoping to turn her new life into a comic essay, Madoka begins interviewing her in-laws and the local women of the town. However, she underestimates Kyoto’s culture of “honne and tatemae” (true feelings vs. public facade), earning their ire. Deeply reflecting on her missteps, Madoka sets out to become a proper ambassador of Kyoto’s traditions—but things soon spiral in an unexpected direction, drawing the entire town into the chaos.
