Synopsis

A new installment in the dream collaboration between screenwriter Mitani Koki, author Agatha Christie, and star Nomura Mansai is coming to Fuji TV. Following “Murder on the Orient Express” (2015) and “The Black Well Murder” (2018), this third series adaptation “Death’s Promise” is Christie’s 1938 novel reimagined in 1950s Japan along the Kumano Ancient Trail.

Nomura Mansai returns as detective Suguro Takeru, alongside Suzuki Kyoka as congresswoman Uesugi Honami, Higa Manami as doctor Sara Kinuko, and Tsubokura Yoshiyuki as suspicious tax accountant Jumonji Yasao. The story centers on the Hondo family, led by Matsuzaka Keiko as the controlling widow whose death at a hot spring resort sparks the mystery.

The suspects include the Hondo children: eldest son Reiichiro (Yamamoto Koji), second son Mondo (Ichihara Hayato), eldest daughter Kyoko (Hotta Mayu), and youngest daughter Junna (Hara Nanoka) – each with their own motives for wanting their domineering mother dead. Detective Suguro must untangle this complex web of family dynamics to solve what becomes his most complicated case yet.
