Synopsis

Hasegawa Heizo visits Kyoto for the first time in sixteen years, accompanied by the doshin officer Kimura Chugo, to pay respects at the grave of his father.
After finishing the gravesite visit, Heizo and Chugo are on their way back to their inn when they rescue a mute young woman named Oyone, who is being chased by ruffians.
Heizo entrusts her to yoriki officer Urabe Hikotaro, an old acquaintance, and prepares to depart for Nara, but Oyone suddenly begs to accompany Heizo on the journey.
The owner of “Izumoya,” the Osaka travel lodge where Oyone had been working, hides a sinister secret.
As Heizo’s group heads toward Nara, master thief Kouzu no Gendan and his gang draws ever closer.
