Synopsis

In the distant future of 2xxx AD, wealthy individuals have transferred their souls into mechanical bodies, becoming mechanized humans who enjoy eternal life. Meanwhile, poor people cannot afford mechanical bodies and live in fear of death, with many flesh-and-blood humans facing discrimination and persecution from the mechanized population.

“Mechanization is the ultimate way of life and the will of the universe.” The cosmos is ruled by Queen Promethium of the Machine Empire, who aims for “universal mechanization” across the galaxy. While mechanized humans represent objects of terror for natural humans, many still harbor desires for mechanical bodies as an escape from fear and misery.

Young Hoshino Tetsuro, whose mother was killed by a machine count, receives a passport for the Galaxy Express 999 from mysterious beauty Maetel. He embarks on a journey seeking a mechanical body while harboring thoughts of revenge for his mother’s death.
