Tabibito Kenshikan Michiba Shusaku

A suspense drama following Michiba Shusaku, a former forensic examiner for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, who finds himself drawn into murder cases while visiting locations steeped in haiku history during his retirement. Joined by a young forensic investigator who recognizes his identity and begs to become his apprentice, Michiba works to uncover the truth behind each killing.

Tabibito Kenshikan Michiba Shusaku, which originally broadcast as a series on BS NTV in 2023 is to be released as a movie in 2026.
 
This work is a suspense mystery in which retired former Tokyo Metropolitan Police medical examiner, Michiva Shusaku, sets out on a journey carrying the notebook left behind by his late wife, while uncovering the truth behind various incidents along the way.
Set against the backdrop of hot spring resorts, mountain regions, and historic townscapes across Japan, the story portrays Michiba’s sharp insights as he confronts each case, as well as the encounters he has with the local people he meets during his travels.
 
One of the key appeals of the drama series is its unique blend of authentic suspense combined with travel-themed elements, featuring the scenic landscapes and local cuisine of the locations where each story unfolds.
 
With its unusual combination of “suspense × travel,” the series has produced and aired six installments since the first episode premiered in December 2023. Following its strong reception, the project has now been adapted into a feature film.
