TV drama producer Yoshino Chiaki is now 48 and still single. Nagakura Wahei who works at the Tourist Promotion Department of Kamakura City’s municipal office is 52. When combined, their total age adds up to 100. And yet, these two still constantly bicker whenever they meet. This is the story of adult youth revolving around the subtle romance between Chiaki and Wahei.

It’s the end of Summer 2012: Drama producer Yoshino Chiaki (Koizumi Kyoko) faces declining work while Nagakura Wahei (Nakai Kiichi) struggles under a younger supervisor at Kamakura City Office. Their “FUNKY” relationship continues as family life unfolds around them—Shinpei managing the family café, Mariko working for Chiaki while secretly loving her, and Noriko’s Hawaii vacation plans met with family indifference.

Chiaki reluctantly accepts a suspense drama project with notoriously slow scriptwriter Haida Mamoru (Lily Franky), while Wahei must convince the repeatedly refusing novelist Sakisaka Midoriko to become a World Heritage ambassador. Both found themselves deeply troubled by their respective situations…

Second-to-Last Love” is a romantic home comedy set in Kamakura, Kanagawa, featuring the story of Yoshino Chiaki, a television producer, and Nagakura Wahei, a public servant working at the city hall. The first season and a special version aired in 2012, with the second season broadcasting in 2014. This new installment depicts the lives of the two main characters 11 years later, maintaining their unchanged dynamic while reflecting on life, along with portraying the Nagakura family.
