This drama depicts the story of two former high school friends who gradually connect with each other through late-night dining activities. Takubo Yuta, a TV station drama director, is overwhelmed by work and living an unstable daily life. Meanwhile, Sato Kosuke, who quit his job as a chef, spends his days living as a NEET. After reconnecting due to a friend’s divorce, a certain event leads the two to begin sharing meals together in the evening.
“Bansan Blues” is a heartwarming gourmet drama that follows three former friends as they reunite and heal through shared meals. The story centers on Takubo Yuta, a director overwhelmed by the daily grind at a TV station; Sato Kosuke, who achieved his dream of becoming a chef but has since quit and fallen into an unemployed lifestyle; and Makita Aoi, who is coping with the aftermath of a recent divorce. Reconnecting after years apart, the trio begins a simple ritual of eating dinner together, through which they gradually restore their emotional well-being.
The special is set one year after the original TV series and begins with the three guys starting a new chapter as housemates in a shared home. Adding further depth to the story, a new character appears: Kosuke’s father. His arrival brings long-buried family tensions and unresolved conflicts to light, shedding new insight into the father-son relationship.
