A groundbreaking detective series where cases must be solved in exactly 33 minutes. Created by Fuji TV and “THE3 Gentlemen” staff, this unconventional show reinvents the mystery genre with a uniquely laid-back approach.
Starring Tsuyoshi Domoto as Rokuro Kurama, the “33-Minute Detective,” the series subverts traditional detective drama tropes. While maintaining sharp investigative elements, Kurama often pursues unlikely suspects despite obvious evidence and others’ protests, creating a signature blend of tension and comedy. Even when his unorthodox theories prove wrong and the obvious suspect turns out guilty, his quirky investigation style transforms serious crime scenes into entertaining scenarios.
Director Yuichi Fukuda, award-winning creator of “THE3 Gentlemen” series (which sold over 300,000 DVDs), brings his distinctive style to this production. This marks Domoto’s first Fuji TV drama series, delivering a fresh take on mystery solving with deliberately “loose” detective work that’s both compelling and comedic.

“The 33-Minute Detective: Comedy Club Murder Mystery”
Detective Rokuro Kurama (Tsuyoshi Domoto) and his team rush from Kyoto to Osaka following a murder at a comedy club. The victim: Kishimoto of comedy duo Frankenz, found collapsed on stage by security.
Upon arrival, Detective Mogi brings in comedian Sano from duo Kerokero, a known troublemaker who quickly confesses to beating Kishimoto. However, Kurama interrupts, declaring he’ll solve the case in 33 minutes.
The investigation reveals deeper complexities: Kishimoto’s partner Kudo with a perfect alibi, an overenthusiastic manager, and the victim’s secret bookings against their agency’s wishes. The medical examiner finds crucial evidence: the fatal wound was to the back of the head, impossible from a face-to-face fight, plus mysterious burn marks around the mouth.
After consulting an informant about the volatile personality of Sano’s partner Nakajima, Kurama pieces together the clues and gathers all suspects for the dramatic revelation.
