Synopsis

Based on a novel by Ishiguro Kazuo.
The novel itself is a human mystery which intertwines the Nagasaki of the 1950s with 1980’s England. Told within a dual timeline, it follows Niki, who has a Japanese mother and British father and lives in London. One day, she, who dropped out of college to pursue a career as a writer, visits her mother Etsuko’s suburban home, where her mother lives alone. Etsuko, who experienced the atomic bombing in Nagasaki and later moved to England after the war, begins to tell Niki about a recurring dream she has been having recently. It was a dream about a woman and her young daughter whom Etsuko had met back when she was still living in Nagasaki.
