Synopsis

A jidaigeki comedy about a Bakumatsu-era samurai who time-slips into a modern-day period drama studio and struggles to make a living as a “kirareyaku” (stunt actor who specializes in being cut down in sword-fight scenes).

Kyoto in the late Edo period. Aizu Domain samurai Kosaka Shinzaemon receives a secret order from a senior retainer to assassinate a Choshu Domain warrior. However, at the very moment he crosses blades with his target, a sudden lightning strike knocks him unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a modern-day jidaigeki film studio.
Causing trouble wherever he goes, Kosaka Shinzaemon is stunned to learn that the Tokugawa shogunate fell 140 years ago. Overwhelmed by despair, he briefly resigns himself to death. However, with the help of kind-hearted people, he gradually regains his will to live.

Eventually, relying solely on the sword skills he has honed to perfection, Shinzaemon knocks on the gates of a film studio and resolves to make a living as a kirareyaku
