Synopsis

Set in Fukushima, ten years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Konna Koto ga Atta marks Matsui’s first new film in approximately 18 years. The story follows 17-year-old Akira, who lost his mother due to radiation exposure from the nuclear accident. His father now works as a decontamination laborer, leaving the family scattered and disconnected. Concerned for Akira, his friend Shinichi, who also struggles with loneliness, watches over him. One day, Akira meets the Koike couple, who run a surf shop, and their employee Yuuji. Through these encounters, he gradually begins to open his heart. However, unhealed emotional wounds continue to quietly eat away at them all.
