Synopsis

In the dairy farming town of Nakashibetsu in the Konsen Plain of eastern Hokkaido, Kazami Tamiko raises cattle on the land left by her deceased husband while caring for her only son, Takeshi. One stormy spring night, a man visits Tamiko’s house and asks to stay in the barn. That night, a cow gives birth, and the man helps with the delivery before leaving the next morning. One summer day, the same man returns asking for work. Though Hitomi, the neighbor’s daughter, helps out, Tamiko, lacking male assistance, decides to hire him. The man, who calls himself Tajima Kosaku, begins living and working in the barn…
