Synopsis

This film is based on a true story that took place in Japan during the country’s rapid economic growth in the 1960s, amid the excitement of the Tokyo Olympics and Osaka Expo. As authorities intensified crackdowns on prostitution in an effort to purge lax public morals, prosecutors targeted individuals who had undergone gender confirmation surgery – by arresting the doctor who performed the procedures. Around the same time, Sachi, a young woman working as a waitress at a café in Tokyo, is overjoyed when her boyfriend proposes. But her world changes when she is approached by the arrested doctor’s lawyer with a request: to testify as a witness who has undergone gender confirmation surgery.
