Synopsis

Directed by Morita Yoshimitsu and starring Sakai Masato, the story follows Inoyama Naoyuki, the eighth-generation head of the Inoyama family, who served the Kaga Domain as御算用者 (chief accountants) for generations. However, samurai society had a custom where expenses increased as one’s status rose, and the Inoyama family’s finances eventually reached a crisis point. At Naoyuki’s suggestion, they decide to implement an extremely frugal lifestyle that seems unthinkable for a samurai family, challenging the conventions of their social class through radical financial discipline.
