Synopsis

65-year old Nishihata Tamotsu was unable to read or write, a secret he kept even from his beloved wife, Kyoko. Born into poverty with little education, he endured a difficult life until meeting and marrying Kyoko. Afraid of losing her, he hid his illiteracy, but when the truth came out, Kyoko reassured him, saying, “From today on, I will be your hands.” Deeply moved, Tamotsu decided to learn to write. After retirement, he began attending night school, struggling with slow progress, but remained determined. As their 35th anniversary neared, Kyoko continued to quietly support him.
