Synopsis

Based on Edogawa Ranpo’s 1925 short story “Hitori Futayaku (Double Role)” the film tells the story of Tetsuro, a struggling small-theater actor whose marriage to his wife Haru has gone cold. Even his secret trysts with his mistress has failed to satisfy his desires. Starved for excitement, Tetsuro approaches his junior colleague, actor Yusuke, with a strange request: in exchange for giving him the lead role in an upcoming stage production, Yusuke must impersonate a fictitious man and try to seduce his wife. Tetsuro plans to use the entire affair as material for a new play. As Yusuke grows closer to Haru, his emotions begin to waver between performance and reality. Meanwhile, Tetsuro is shaken to his core when he sees a side of his wife she has never shown him.
