Synopsis

Actress Fujiyoshi Yumika (Adachi Rika) has been troubled since childhood by her mother Yoshika (Terajima Shinobu), who tries to control her every move. Yoshika is truly a “toxic parent” to Yumika. Though Yumika moved to Tokyo in rebellion against Yoshika, she hadn’t escaped the suffocating control. When Yumika discovers that Yoshika’s behind-the-scenes manipulations caused her to lose both her boyfriend and an important job, she exposes Yoshika on a talk show, creating a major public response. Hearing Yumika’s accusations, Yoshika reflects on her own life and resolves to “let go” of her daughter, but… (“Poison Daughter,” “Holy Mother”).

The series also depicts various other women: one who continues believing everything is her fault (“Sinful Woman”), an aspiring screenwriter growing increasingly frustrated by her rival’s success (“Best Friend”), someone who murders because she’s “too kind” (“Kind Person”), and a woman who, in contrast to her free-spirited sister, has only opened her heart to cats until nearly age 40 (“My Dearest”).
