Synopsis

The protagonist of this work is Omori Ippei, “Japan’s worst man” who despises families and children. Working as a TV station news reporter, he causes a scandal due to his outdated Showa-era values and is forced to resign. Aiming to make a political comeback and prove his critics wrong, Ippei decides to live with his widowed brother-in-law Kohara Shosuke, a single father raising two children from his late sister’s marriage, in order to project an image of being in touch with ordinary citizens’ lives. Although Ippei initially takes this despicable action purely for electoral gain, through his interactions with Shosuke and the children, he gradually begins to notice social issues and his outlook on life starts to change.
