Synopsis

The protagonist of this story is an MR (Medical Representative), a pharmaceutical company professional who visits doctors, pharmacists, and other healthcare workers to provide and gather information on prescription medicines while promoting their proper use.

Kionaka is the branch manager of the Third Sales Office at the Tokyo division of mid-tier pharmaceutical giant Tenpo Pharmaceuticals, where he works as an MR (Medical Representative). His singular mission: to secure an “A-rating” first-line recommendation in the clinical practice guidelines for his company’s groundbreaking new Type 2 diabetes drug, Pansel.
If a drug is selected as a first-line treatment, annual sales exceeding 100 billion yen are virtually guaranteed. However, Pansel, which had earned strong evaluations from the medical community, becomes embroiled in a compliance scandal after alleged violations at a seminar – an incident triggered by sabotage from a rival foreign pharmaceutical company.
The crisis deepens when it emerges that a Tenpo Pharmaceuticals cancer treatment that Kionaka himself recommended to patients, has caused fatal side effects. The company now faces the threat of a drug-injury lawsuit, and cracks begin to form within the organization.
